Heritage of Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy - Est. 3000BC! The use of botanical ingredients, aromatic plants and essential oils in skincare goes back thousands of years. ‘Aromatherapy’ is a word coined in the 1920’s by a French chemist who discovered the healing power of Lavender by accident. He went on to discover that the whole oil is more efficient than its isolated constituents – this brings us to the holistic approach that Aromatherapy fosters today.

Essential oils to us are a desert-island must-have. We love creating blends which harmonise, uplift, balance, relax… and with around 60 different essential oils in our store cupboard, the possibilities are endless. We have a lot of fun with blending and strongly believe that mindset has a powerful effect on creation. When blending formulations at Orchard View, we think about the aesthetic result on a sensory level, using instinct along with knowledge of blending techniques. OV cosmetic products are aimed at specific types of skin condition and we also consider the psychotherapeutic aspect to the blend, the effect on emotional and psychological balance. Essential oils have the ability to restore and replenish, an example being Organic Atlas Cedarwood which is used in Aromatherapy to ground us, hold us firm and fortify us in times of uncertainty or conflict.*

The therapeutic value of the blend is vitally important to us as Aromatherapists, as we are seeking maximum benefit to health. • Environmentally friendly – Natural & organic ingredients are generally more environmentally friendly than harsh synthetic ingredients – for example, natural plant oils are naturally biodegradable. OV’s Packaging policy means that all containers may be easily recycled. PET is recycled to make fleece fabric, for example.
• Local – OV puts back into the local community, through bringing custom to the Post Office in the village, for example, as well as sponsoring village events where possible. Where possible, providing they fit into OV’s strict supplier code, regional suppliers are used, or geographically closest possible to OV.
• Regulated – Lucy Stevens is registered with the Federation of Holistic Therapists (MFHT) & insured with the Complementary Therapists Association (CThA). Her products have been independently Safety Assessed and comply with current Cosmetic Regulations. Many ingredients in OV products are certified organic, by the Soil Association, the Organic Food Federation, the Farmers & Growers Association and Ecocert. Only regulated suppliers are used to protect consumer safety.

How to get the most out of your OV naturals products
Follow these tips to get the most from your products:
- We are used to splodging masses of product onto our skin & hair. With OV, all of this changes. You only need a tiny amount of product. A little goes a long way. Start with less and work it into your skin. You will know if you've overdone it just by the feel of your skin
- Over time you will see that OV products are a great investment, as you often need less of the product as your skin readjusts and rebalances
- Warm oils in the palms of the hands before using and then gently press into the skin
- Remember the neck & decollete areas, which are often neglected. They show signs of ageing as much as the face - the skin is thinner on the decollete area, too. Massage products in using upward strokes
- Store your OV products with the lids tightly closed & use clean hands to apply
- Use of a flannel or cloth with your cleansing product will enhance its action. Cleansing is really important for clear skin. OV cleansers are efficient without being harsh.
- Products contain essential oils of the highest therapeutic grade - so OV products are really special. They work on your skin with these active ingredients and also act on the limbic area of the brain with their therapeutic aromas. Most commercial products use processed essential oils which might smell nice but have no therapeutic value, so have no positive action on the skin. In aromatherapy, essential oils have powers such as cell regenerating, antibacterial, emollient, hydrating, vulnerary (wound healing), analgesic (naturally pain relieving) and so on. - As a sensible precaution, before first use, due to the potency of ingredients, we suggest a Patch Test 24 hours before use, for example inside the elbow or behind the ear.
